#278 fixed "Log Out" button on screensaver takes far too long jdreed

Reported by jdreed, 15 years ago.

Description

Tommy and Joyce (hotline) mentioned that they'd been having some problems logging people out who had abandoned their cluster machines. I told them that Ctrl-L doesn't work anymore, and they have to use the mouse, but they said the "Log Out" button only works about half the time.

I assume this is related to #146, but I wanted to track it separately anyway.

#279 fixed Thunderbird wrapper should not run fs sa on local paths jdreed

Reported by jdreed, 15 years ago.

Description

The thunderbird wrapper script insists on running "fs sa" on the .mozilla-thunderbird directory it just created. This fails on local accounts and causes it to complain to the user:

fs: Invalid argument; it is possible that /home/joeuser/.mozilla-thunderbird is not in AFS.

It should not do that, or should at least redirect output to /dev/null, to avoid confusing the user with pointless errors.

#281 fixed notify-osd misleadingly reports that print jobs have completed mitchb

Reported by mitchb, 15 years ago.

Description

As noted on zephyr earlier, I printed a document from OpenOffice? to meadow on opus (a Jaunty -cluster machine), and immediately received a notify-osd alert that my print job had completed on meadow. It was actually reporting that it had finished spooling the job to cups.mit.edu, and of course the job on the printer had yet to start, and might well have gone on to fail.

This is, admittedly, an upstream issue. However, it's going to seriously mislead and screw with all cluster users who won't understand what it really means, so we probably want to try to suppress it. Unfortunately, it is a very nice looking notice interface... too bad it "lies." It might be neat if we could get the old xconsole messages through this interface (though that does have the issue that you can't scroll back to review messages, and if you're away from the keyboard, you'll miss them).
