Note that the way dh_strip works changed substantially between dh compat
levels...4 and 5? 5 and 6? Something like that

So make sure you adjust debian/compat in a compatible way. See
dh_strip(1)

There are also cdbs variables like DEB_DBG_PACKAGE_% and
DEB_DBG_PACKAGE_ALL and stuff like that that are worth looking into
