Once again, CUPS is determined to ensure that lpq remains useless:

Also, we should report this upstream (specifically, that 1.3 lpq against a 1.4 server doesn't work).

This is actively screwing people, and I don't think we can wait until Lucid to fix it.
In the new printing-config world, is it easy to make the lpq wrapper actually run lpstat?

We could try to get an SRU with the upstream patch, which according to the bug is http://cups.org/strfiles/3117/str3117.patch.

That patch can't possibly be right, since it's just about ipp://localhost, but then what do I know about the horrors of CUPS.
I'm going to try fixing it locally in printing-config since that'll get us a fix faster, but we should test and see if that patch does anything.

Tested the patch and it seems not to work. If someone wants to check my work, take a look at zulu:/home/builder/geofft/cups*

Also built stock 1.3.11 per the recommendation in the upstream ticket, and that didn't help. (I have reported this to upstream)

Committed a workaround in r24813/r24814 and uploaded. I'll open a new ticket about following up with upstream.

Looks like this got moved to production.
This is CUPS-1.3 specific, and thus only affects Jaunty and Hardy (and Lenny). Karmic and above works just fine.
So, I think we'll chalk this up to "CUPS developers hate their userbase", and move on. I'll document it.
